The place to be on Sunday night

The Resentments play every Sunday night at the Saxon Pub. They are 5 well-known musicians who play in other bands but also play together just for fun on Sunday evenings. You never know who you'll see because when someone in the band can't make it, someone else might show up. Last night started off with Stephen Bruton and Scrappy Jud Newcomb and the drummer, John Chipman. The other usuals, Jon Dee Graham and Bruce Hughes, weren't there. Mike suggested that we go this evening, to recover from both of our team's losses and the disappointment over where UT ended up in the BCS rankings. It was a great idea and something we'll definitely do more often on Sunday evenings.

Here's how it started out, just 3 of them.

Then, Joel Guzmon showed up and asked if he could sit in. He plays a mean accordion!!

Malford Milligan was in the audience and he got called up onto the stage and sang a handful of songs. He has a huge bluesy soulful voice that you would recognize if you listen to Austin blues music. As soon as he started singing, people (well, all the women in the audience!) got up and danced.

Toward the end of the show Stephen Bruton pulled out 3 scraps of paper which was a love song he had written the night before, and he sang it for the first time. That was so cool and pretty much epitomizes what this band is all about.
You never know what you're gonna get with the Resentments. Everytime I've been there it has ended up being a special treat, like last night.
